5 Tips For Getting The Perfect Spray Tan

With a spray tan at Tropical Tan in Joplin, you can have beautifully tan skin in no time. Just make sure you follow these five spray tanning tips:

1. Spray Tan at Least 24-48 Hours Before Your Event
Spray tans need at least 12 hours to develop, and your color can change slightly in the meantime. Allowing yourself two days gives you extra time in case you accidentally smear your tan or the color doesn’t turn out as you had hoped.

2. Exfoliate and Shave
Exfoliating removes excess dry skin so your tan will go on more evenly and last longer. Do this the day of your spray tan and be sure to focus on your knees, elbows and ankles. Shave any areas that you normally do while in the shower prior to your spray tan. It is recommended to shower 4-5 hours prior to spray to allow your skin to balance Ph levels for a more even/natural appearance. Tropical Tan has Mystic & Versa Spa products available for purchase to help you achieve the best results.

3. Skip Moisturizers and Make-up
If you apply moisturizers or make-up before your spray tan, they can form a protective barrier that prevents the tanning solution from coloring your skin. Only apply a moisturizer to your knees, ankles, elbows and to the palms of your hands at the salon as your spray tan therapist recommends. For best results you should only use Versa Spa or Mystic products made especially for spay tans.

4. Wear Dark, Loose Clothing
The spray tan solution needs time to soak into your skin. Clothing that is too tight may wear your tan away in spots, and clothing that is light may become discolored from the solution.

5. Stay Dry for at least 6-12 hours
Just remember that taking a shower, swimming, working out and getting caught in the rain before the recommended 6 hours can all cause your spray tan to become splotchy, streaky or to wash off completely. The tan itself can develop for 12 hours, so the longer your skin stays dry the better result you will have.
